The Weber House is a storybook home built by Ernest and Zelma
Weber in 1937. It sits in an English garden of meandering paths, foxglove,
hollyhocks and old oaks. Inside,
cozy candlelit rooms reflect the taste of the late 18th century - a time of
colorfully painted walls, woodwork and floors; Queen Anne, Chippendale, and
Hepplewhite style furniture, and oriental rugs.
Here, the rush of the 21st century is left behind, replaced by the tick of a tall case clock and the splash of the garden fountain. Your visit to the Weber House and Garden is sure to be a memorable one.
Ted Weber, who designed and remodeled today's Weber House and Garden from his childhood home, has spent over 40 years in radio and television - over 20 in Chicago. It was there that he interviewed presidents, movie stars, and authors. Some of them visited Weber House and have rooms named for them. Ted's nationally syndicated shows originated from such Chicago landmarks as the Blackstone, Hyatt, Marriott, and Knickerbocker Hotels, among others. His interviewing skills also took him to Europe where he filed reports for NBC's "Monitor." His television credits include "C.E.T. Amateur Hour," "Ted Weber in Old Town," and "A.M. Chicago."
Special events at the Weber House include: Spooky Garden Walk for Halloween, Colonial Christmas, and openings during community events such as Heritage Days, 4th of July, Labor Day and Light Up Streator.
The Weber House is located at 1503 Baker St. in Streator. For tour information, phone 815/672-8327.
