Illinois currently gets just over 2 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, but has a requirement of generating 25 percent of its power from renewable energy sources by 2025. Wind turbines reduce emission of many pollutants produced by electric power plants using fossil fuels. The Grand Ridge Wind Farm is capable of generating power for about 70,000 homes.
