Operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center overlooks the busy Starved Rock Lock and Dam. The Center also provides an overview of the scenic Starved Rock State Park area. A wide range of activities are available at the Visitor Center to please everyone.

History fans can discover about early users of the Illinois River, the Illinois and Michigan Canal and how water transportation transformed the United States. Nature lovers can view bald eagles, pelicans, heron, ducks and other waterfowl during different seasons. Nearby you can find wild turkeys, deer and other wildlife.

Do you like horsepower? You can see, hear and feel up to 7,000 horses in action as a might towboat exits the lock with its string of barges.

Open seven days a week, the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center is located on the North bank of the Illinois River between Utica and Ottawa.
